On Ever Educating, Erika Romero shares teaching tips, tools, ideas, and resources, along with edtech tutorials.
Hello Viewer,
I started this channel so I could post teaching-related content, as well as productivity/planning tips. At this point, most videos are about teaching or instructional design. FYI: I also have a blog.
I know many grad students have assistantships that require them to teach courses without much training/mentorship. If you're in this situation, this channel is intended to help you learn about activity ideas, assessment strategies, tools to use, & more. I've organized my videos into playlists to make it easy to find the help you need. There's also a playlist for my grad student advice, too!
If you're not a grad student but still new to teaching college courses, I hope my videos help on your higher ed teaching journey.
Note, opinions expressed are solely my own and do not express the views or opinions of my employer.
Best,

thank you, very helpful
Great tutorial, Thanks!

God, the Lord Jesus Christ loves you! Restore your relationship with God by repenting of your sins and putting your faith in Jesus Christ, "... that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures..." (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)
Erika, I see this is posted 4 years ago - wow! I teach math and use my iPad with Loom to make videos. I have an audio lag problem - what I am writing lags behind what I'm actually saying. Do you have a fix for this problem?
Hmm, I'm not sure this has an easy answer. My suggestion is to do some experimenting with the best place for your WiFi connection. Lag tends to be caused by poor WiFi connection, so you might find that recording in a certain room or part of your office or even a different location might decrease the lag or get rid of it entirely. If that doesn't work, then you might consider tweaking your teaching style to work with the lag. So, write out a portion of the lesson, then once it's on the screen, talk about what you just wrote. Then move on to the next section, etc. Good luck!
I need to complete research as part of my job. Where can I find researchers who want to collaborate?
This really depends on your specific situation. Your job might require you to look only to coworkers as your potential research partners. In that case, I suggest reaching out to your manager/advisor asking for their advice on finding collaborators. If your job is more flexible and you can pick any collaborator you want, then you might try finding online spaces where your field's researchers spend time (LinkedIn, Twitter, professional organization discussion forums or listservs, etc.) and place a call for collaborators. Best of luck!
How do I get them to watch. I’ve embedded bonus points in videos and they still don’t watch them.
This is a tough one! Bonus points are a great idea; sorry to hear it's not working with your students. If their answers to the questions are saved for you to review, then another option might be to express interest/pride/excitement over the answers. So, positively calling out students who are answering the questions to show them that you are paying attention to those answers and giving them chances to shine in front of their classmates if they take the time to answer the questions. You could also tell them when you plan on reviewing the student answers to the video questions. So, "Hey, I'll be reviewing X video this Thursday and will be adding the bonus points to Y assignment at that point. Make sure to get your answers in by noon if you want the chance for bonus points." The time limitation and reminder will hopefully inspire a bit more engagement.
great tutorial. I will be using this.
So glad it was helpful!
Your content is so helpful. Wish I had discovered you sooner.

Hey I really appreciate your content and effort !!

Thank you! I don't have a podcast, but I so appreciate your support!
how to dowload the sakai?
Are you wanting to download a lesson page you create in Sakai?
Thank you teacher
Personally, I think the first R is the most important, as it’s the starting point of the whole process. Sure, you can receive feedback without requesting it, but taking the step to request feedback means you have power over the type of feedback you receive. So, that’s my answer to which R I think is most important. Though, of course, all five have value.
such a great video thank you. I also have a question, I am creating a program for people who want to learn English through books, literature and fairytales, but I am still having so problems making it happen, I still don't know if I should talk only about fairytales or maybe make it broad. How do you know how to create a good course for your students?
This program sounds amazing! Are you creating an online course through a tool like Teachable? Or will it be in person through a local library, college, etc.? I think there are two main approaches you can take. 1. Create a course using reading materials that you love, that you think will be valuable to people wanting to learn English through literature. Having created a course that really excites you, market it to your target audience and/or teach it at the in-person institution that you are teaching in. 2. Do audience research and create a themed course based on the results you receive. You might find that a fairytales-focused course is what excites your potential students. Or, perhaps they want to learn through short stories or a mix of genres. Once you have that information, build that course. I wish you the best in your endeavor. If you want to brainstorm 1:1, I have a consult call service, as well: www.evereducating.com/creative-confidence-calls/. Good luck!
I discovered your channel today. I realized that teachers need to watch your videos. Watching from the Philippines.
Welcome! I'm glad you are finding them helpful!
Thank you so much for this presentation. How I wish many people may watch it.
I saw that your UA-cam videos are very lovely . You have enough of the videos but your video is not getting views because there is some problem with your videos. Your SEO score is very poor and you need optimization for better results.
Hello, thank you for this! Where can I acquire your MLA guide? Thank you!
Beans! I heard beans is the key to longevity
Great choice! I've added a bean salad as a staple to my diet! Just a mix of white beans or chickpeas, red beans, and corn. Add some spices, avocado, and/or hummus and it's the perfect side.
Your explanation and examples are very clear. Thank you for posting these videos
I'm so glad! Thanks for the feedback!
Can please you do one for school? For example saying whether it's better to use a ring-bound or regular notebook for history class or chemistry. I'm aware I'm a little late but hey, at least I asked 😅
I appreciate you asking! I'll add this suggestion to my list of video ideas.
it;s very difficult to follow, first of all you speak too fast and second you swallow half of your words that leaves us guessing what you were saying, :(
Hlo
I'm not sure if I missed it in the video, but where do you do these discussion forums for your students?
In the class learning management system (LMS). I created the discussion forums in that section of Canvas or Sakai's class website and then linked them to the week in which they were relevant.
Thx it's helpful 😊😊
♥️♥️ best wishes
Love the teaching journal idea! I will be giving it a try this upcoming semester.
Great! Hope it works well for you!
Here's the video about reflecting on your core values! ua-cam.com/video/2POf1H1de5o/v-deo.html
Can this be done/used on a mobile?
Yes, it will work on mobile. You just need to be able to sign into Google to create and publish the generator. Once that's done, the generator will work on mobile or a computer.
brilliant video, thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Here's the video about reflecting on your core values: ua-cam.com/video/2POf1H1de5o/v-deo.html
I been struggling to put together a portfolio. I designed an initial one based on what I've learned on UA-cam, some Linkedin Learning courses and even a course in Articulate. What's confusing to know is what's sufficient? I've also joined some linkedin groups for support and whenever I show them my portfolio I get mixed feedback. I've applied to some jobs and have secured a few interviews but no offers. I feel ID is a very subjective field. I mainly used Articulate Storyline to create my interactions. Also, included some audio. I could diversify it but still am not sure what's enough to secure a role?
The fact that you have gotten a few interviews sounds like a great sign. I know there are a lot of people applying to ID roles at the moment, especially if they are remote. In my portfolio, I had ten different content samples. But I know that it was my UA-cam channel that helped me secure the interview for my current job, as it showed my multimedia skills, but also my teaching and ID knowledge. I wish you the best on your search.
Thank you! I am going to try some of these ideas in my class next week.
I hope it went well!
Hey Erik, really nice video! I was wondering if I could help you edit your videos and also make them highly engaging shorts out of them.
Great timing as the end of the semester approaches
Hello ,your video is great. I want to teach climate change concept with one of these tools .which of them will you recommend to be the best to use for climate change .
I think this random prompt generator is a great option for an activity on climate change. It allows you to create four columns. So perhaps a column each for state/country, geographical location type, problem or solution, name of student. So, one randomly generated prompt might be: Florida, coast, solution, John. John would then need to research a solution for climate change that has been or is being worked on in relation to Florida's coastal cities or land. If it had been "problem" instead of solution, then John would have had to research a problem the Florida coast was facing due to climate change. Or, if there are certain climate change concepts you want them to research, the columns could be: student names, concept, problem or solution. So only three columns in this case (though you can also make this a partnered assignment and therefore have two columns of student names). There are other flippity activities that can work, too. For example, create a crossword puzzle of concepts and their definitions. Hope this helps!
I need to know what competencies and skills of instructional design we have to follow as teachers. Two things skills and competencies I would emphasize if I would apply instructional design with my content I teach. so which direction Can I use ? the first one , a international standards as following (IBSTPI -ACET ATD) that show the skills ( it is domain but i don't know if it is mean skills or not ) and comptenses . Second , there are some researchers tend to get the skills from ADDLE Model , and the competences from their experiences . So my question is which direction I have to use ?.
I'm not sure I understand your question. I don't have any experience with international standards, so I can't answer that part of your question. But as for using instructional design models like ADDIE, I would say many college instructors aren't taught instructional design frameworks before they start teaching, since their education tends to be subject specific rather than in education. For example, they have a degree in math or sociology or English, not in education. So learning about and using instructional design models like ADDIE or Backwards Design is not technically required for teaching, but they can help educators create stronger courses. Personally, I think backwards design is the most important framework to learn and apply as an educator. I have a couple videos about that framework, starting with this one: ua-cam.com/video/LH8E-9Ex0qM/v-deo.html. I hope this answer helps.
you speak too fast, would u please slow down in your next videos
I'll try my best to slow down my pace! I tend to talk fast when excited. Since I have a lot of videos already up, though, just as a tip, you can change the "playback speed" using the cog icon on the bottom right of the video. You can slow down the pace to less than the "normal" setting.
I like your Icebreakers
Thank you!
I will keep you posted on how I apply your suggestions
Hope it goes well!!
